The record does not just break August records.

It breaks all temperature records across Australia for any reading in June, July and August. Ever.

Echuca – Meeting of the Waters
Named by the indigenous Yorta Yorta peoples as a place that means ‘meeting of the waters.’ Echuca is the spot where the Goulburn and the Campaspe rivers join the Murray.

Major Flood Levels

EDIT 24th October: As at 9:00am on 24th October 2022, no-one alive has seen water this high at the Echuca Wharf. The only higher level was recorded 152 years ago in 1870.

The Echuca wharf gauge is measured based on the Australian Height Datum (AHD) which assumes sea level is 0 metres.

Data below shows monthly readings between 1987 and 2022, there are missing data /not recorded between 1993 and 2002.

CO2 concentrations at Mauna Loa continue the march…

Weather is NOT Climate, most certainly, but this is worthy of note.

For the first time temperatures of 40°C have been forecast in the UK and the Met Office has issued the first ever Red warning for exceptional heat.

Just a few hours prior to this article being published, Tanya Plibersek, the Australian Minister for the Environment and Water released the “State of the Environment” report, described by the Guardian Australia newspaper as showing that:

The health of Australia’s environment is poor and has deteriorated over the past five years due to pressures of climate change, habitat loss, invasive species, pollution and mining, according to a government report that warns the natural world holds the key to human wellbeing and survival.
The Guardian

The state of the environment report – a review completed by scientists last year but held back by the Morrison government until after the federal election – found abrupt changes in some Australian ecosystems over the past five years, with at least 19 now showing signs of collapse or near collapse.

G7 and Carbon

The Group of Seven western industrialised states (G7) has committed to making their electricity systems “predominantly” carbon-free by 2035, but stopped short of setting a concrete date for exiting coal. Following their meeting in Berlin, the G7 environment, climate and energy ministers said only that they would support “an accelerated global unabated coal phase-out”.

Analysts said the announcement to decarbonise power sectors was a “big step ahead” in the fight against climate change but added that the to-do list for the G7 summit of heads of state and government next month in Bavaria remains long, given that there was also little progress on climate financing and other issues.

The environment, climate and energy ministers of the Group of Seven western industrialised states (G7) have agreed to largely decarbonise their electricity sectors within 13 years. Following their meeting in Berlin, the ministers said they

commit to a goal of achieving predominantly decarbonised electricity sectors by 2035.

50 Years on – Limits to Growth
The Club of Rome’s report from 1972 is 50 years old.

I read it when it was first published… A sobering and influential read then.

What’s changed in that time?

Up on the Roof
The worlds warming cities.

Apologies to the Drifters…

When this old world starts getting me down
And people are just too much for me to face
I climb way up to the top of the stairs
And all my cares just drift right into space
On the roof, it’s peaceful as can be
And there the world below can’t bother me
Let me tell you now
The Drifters

Yeah, not really…

It seems like screaming at the wind for 20+ years and finally…. Someone notices…

Well done #NSW to ban black roofs.

This is, of course, in the context of Penrith recording the HOTTEST temperature on Earth [48.9c or 120.02 F] in January 2020.

Just consider that this was PLANNED and DESIGNED as a place for people to live…

Next time you go for a drive past *any* new housing estate, count the black roofs….

Think about that.

You thought 417 was bad?
The mean carbon dioxide measured at Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii in June 2021 was 418.94ppm.

418.94ppm

If I am not mistaken, this is the highest concentration recorded since humans have been on earth?

At least it is comforting to know that such existential issues are front-of-mind for our political leaders. You know, “follow-the-science” and all that…

I thought 410 was bad in 2017?

Why, you ask?

I wrote in 2017 that,
- Records show that more than 10 generations of my family up to about 1900 would have only experienced a 10-15ppm rise in CO2 levels
- My father, born in 1916 experienced approximately a 50-60ppm rise.
- In just my lifetime, global CO2 concentration has increased from 310 ppm to 4~~10ppm~~ 418.94ppm
