Like other aspects of modern life, schools must change
By Kalei Ching–Matter of Opinion
It is a matter of fact that people find comfort in the familiar. We remember with fondness the home-cooked meals that we grew up eating and staunchly insist on keeping old traditions alive. We even eat the same breakfast day in and day out and feel a little out of sorts if we’ve missed a part of our morning routine.
For most of us, what is familiar about education is what we experienced as kids ourselves – sitting at desks, filling out worksheets, memorizing math formulas. We expect to see similar things going on in classrooms today – a new and improved version of what we remember from our own childhoods – and find it reassuring when we do.
